Some of our fears are obvious – violent, gory creatures, whose loud growls can be heard from far away, whose rotting stench can be sniffed in the wind. Others, however, are more insidious – and these are the truly scary fears.
Hidden right beneath our noses, some of our friendly neighbors hold secrets. Some are minor – some kind of uncommon taste that is made fun of or frowned upon – and others revolve around submission to a dark lord that wants to bring destruction to the world. Finding out there’s always been a secret conspiracy going on right in their superficially perfect neighborhood inspires true fear and suspicion in the hearts of men, and it permeates their every waking moment.
Cultists blend in society and live their day-to-day lives much like regular citizens. The people of Panshaw have no idea that among their own, there are those who would see everyone else butchered in the name of some foul demon lord. That is about to change, however, as the Festival of the Rising Sun is interrupted by an attack on the cathedral, a ritualistic strike by some of their citizens dressed in robes with religious inscriptions and trinkets. Not only that, but a host of demonic creatures seem to have been summoned from outer planes, and some of the cultists have let open the gates for a pack of gnolls.
With this sudden attack on such a holy day, who shall protect Panshaw? Alas, a group of adventurers takes up arms against the invading force, and fights the cultists!
