Code Black. Alpha Centauri Station requires immediate support.
Six weeks ago AlphaC-1, the research station in orbit around Proxima Centauri b, missed one of its scheduled data burst transmissions. All attempts to reestablish contact through other relays have failed. The last transmissions received indicated no issues with the station itself or its personnel. Due to the sensitive nature of the research being conducted at AlphaC-1 and its importance to our government, Gamma Squad was dispatched shortly after.
While in transit our transport received the first message sent by Dr. Alvarez in over a month. A distress beacon. Not a directed data burst transmission, but an unfiltered emergency distress beacon blaring out in all directions, in a clear breach of regulations. There is no telling who else out there heard the call, so we are instituting absolute radio silence and burning through the last of our fuel reserves to accelerate our arrival. The survival of the research and of Dr. Alvarez is of paramount importance. If you can’t refuel at the station itself, you will need to make landfall in Proxima b itself. It has a secure emergency bunker, from where you can send an encrypted data burst transmission and call for reinforcements.
Our mission parameters are as follows:
1- Secure AlphaC-1 and its main research, identifying the cause of the distress beacon;
2- Locate and extract Dr. Vanessa Alvarez, the lead civilian researcher on-site and leader of the station;
3- Maintain absolute information quarantine until the site is secured;
4- Locate any signs of xeno-contamination and contain/destroy it;
5- If containment is not possible, initiate the station’s self-destruct system;
6- If the other researchers on-site become a threat to either of the parameters above, eliminate the threat;
