The launch has been successful! We’ve left that desolate land behind. All systems seem to be working as intended, and there are enough supplies for the trip. Things are finally going our way. Hopefully this planet Lutba is in a better state than our previous home… Though in all honesty, I find it unlikely to be worse. Humankind wouldn’t turn another colonized planet into a nuclear wasteland after what happened back there. Either way, worrying won’t get us anywhere. It’s time to relax and enjoy this journey – we’ve certainly earned a break.
It’s actually kind of nice in here, just sitting and waiting. This life in a steady state is good for a change of pace – playing cards with the crew, dreaming up some cool tales which we roleplay, we even found some miniatures to play a couple boardgames. Maybe it’s not for me for the long term, but hanging out with everyone has been better than expected. We’re kind of like family, I guess.
Today’s my turn to make some snacks for our gaming night. It’s ramen Saturday, so I’m really looking forward to it. I hear some snacking in the kitchen – someone couldn’t wait, but that’s fine. As I enter the room, I’m shocked and momentarily paralyzed: is that my “brother” being eaten from inside out? “Alien aboard!”, I shout as I try to seal the kitchen. “Fuck, fuck, fuck, what are we to do?”
